Head Girl 2025 – Grantleigh College

Head Girl 2025. Like we did the past years, schoolsthatrock again chat to the Head Leaders of High Schools in South Africa this year. Today we talk to Anika Vermaak, Head Girl 2025 of Grantleigh College, Richards Bay, KZN. For the first time in Grantleigh College’ history they have twins as Head prefects. Anika’s twins sister, Mia, is the Deputy Head Girl 2025.

” As Head Girl 2025 for Grantleigh College, I’m looking forward to fostering an environment of inclusivity and encouragement. Every student should feel part of our God-loving family while finding their passions and taking part in the many events we are planning for our wonderful students.

My personal goal for my leadership year is to be a voice for those who cannot speak up for themselves. I want to make a change that will be remembered. I also want to bring in new ideas that will be carried onto the next few years.

Qualities of Grantleigh College

The qualities of Grantleigh College is the family-orientated environment within the school. It makes me feel like I have a second home and I do. Whether it’s regarding culture, sport or academics, our students are so welcoming and involved. Everyone uplifts everyone!

Regarding changes this year, I would like to put more emphasis on not only our school’s motto. To God be the Glory. Also student-driven activities after or during school. There leadership programmes can be implemented to assist our students, while still retaining that empowerment of our students as they take initiative and are able to grow as leaders.

To persuade others to make Grantleigh their school of choice, I would inform them of the unending opportunities Grantleigh offers in all aspects. I will also tell them that it’s more than just the piano lessons or rugby practice, it’s a home away from home where everyone fits in.

Leadership trait

My strongest leadership trait? I feel I am fair when it comes to resolving issues. I will also do my absolute best to make sure everyone is heard and happy before making a decision

In order to get collaboration from my team, I make sure that everyone has a safe space to voice their views and opinions. I hold everyone accountable to their own actions, fostering an environment of respect, integrity, and discipline.

The people I look up to the most are both of my parents. They have sacrificed everything to give me what I have and have supported me my whole life. I only wish that one day I can return the favour.

I’m daydreaming mostly about travelling to Italy with my best friend and living on the beach.

My favourite dish is a good stir fry for dinner!!

Regarding my future career, my dream is to go into a field of medicine at Maastricht University, Netherlands.”
