Gary Kirsten T20 Tournament. On Saturday, the 14th of October, Edgemead High School’s First Cricket Team participated in the Gary Kirsten T20 tournament, hosted by Parklands College. This was their third year taking part, finishing second in both previous tournaments. Edgemead went into the festival this year confident to improve on this. This was also the first match for the season under their new head coach.
In Edgemead’s first game they took on the Gary Kirsten Academy. They lost the toss and were put in to bowl first, on a batsman’s paradise. Their bowlers applied themselves brilliantly, bowling the opposition out for 91 runs. An outstanding fielding performance was also delivered from Luke Stinton which led to him earning the “Fielder of the Day” award.
This total was quickly chased down by the Edgemead openers, Daniel Haschick and Ryan Truter. They won the game by 10 wickets. Daniel picked up from where he left off last season scoring 56 runs off 36 balls. The next opponents were Pinelands High School.
Having won the toss and electing to bat first, another fantastic performance from Daniel Haschick, scoring 93 off 6. He lead the team to an impressive total of 163. These two batting performances earned Daniel the “Batsman of the day” award.
From the start, Edgemead’s bowlers restricted Pinelands by consistently hitting their target areas. They took wickets at regular intervals led by Gqwesa Antoni taking 4 wickets. This helped the team secure the win as well as the tournament.
This was a strong start from the team. They need to build on this start to keep performing at their best and produce strong results for the rest of the season.
