Curro Podium Northern Regions. Curro Podium North Hosts Largest Regional Athletics Meet as Young Stars Break Records
Tshwane, South Africa — As the 2025 World Athletics Championships captivate global audiences in Tokyo, South Africa’s next generation of track and field talent took center stage at the Curro Podium Northern Regionals — the largest school athletics meet in the region — held at Pilditch Stadium in Tshwane.
The event welcomed 2,401 athletes from eight provincial athletics bodies, delivering a day of electrifying competition and record-breaking performances. Teams from Central Northwest, Free State, Gauteng North, Mpumalanga, Northwest, Vaal Triangle, Central Gauteng, and Limpopo competed across all high school disciplines.
“These young athletes are the future of South African sport,” said Cindy van der Merwe, Portfolio Manager at Curro Sport. “The Curro Podium Series gives them the chance to compete at a serious level and chase their dreams of representing their country.”
Among the standout performances:
- Tumi Ramokgopa (Prestige College) broke her own SA junior record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.15 seconds.
- Tiisetso Malungane (Curro Hazeldean) set a new personal best in the 3000m at 8:35.57.
- Mukona Manavhela set a new Boys U17 200m record of 20.82 seconds.
- Megan Nieman (Die Hoërskool Menlopark) claimed two U17 hurdle records in the 100m (13.20s) and 400m (58.25s).
- Isabella Gunter (Hoërskool Montana) broke the Girls U17 200m record with 23.77 seconds.
- Jaydon Fairlie (Hoërskool Noordheuwel) set new U15 records in the 200m (20.80s) and 400m (46.19s).
Team accolades were dominated by Die Hoërskool Menlopark, which secured top honors in the boys’, girls’, and combined categories.
Team Awards:
- Best Boys’ Team: Die Hoërskool Menlopark
- Best Girls’ Team: Die Hoërskool Menlopark
- Best Combined Team: Die Hoërskool Menlopark
Individual Awards:
- Junior Track Athlete – Male: Jaydon Fairlie (Hoërskool Noordheuwel)
- Junior Track Athlete – Female: Chane Fourie (Hoërskool Noordheuwel)
- Senior Track Athlete – Female: Megan Nieman (Die Hoërskool Menlopark)
- Senior Field Athlete – Female: Heidi Booysen (Homeschooling)
