During a recent staff function, Ms van Rensburg was presented with a certificate in grateful recognition of the Van Rensburg family for 5 generations of loyalty to the school spanning almost a 100 years.
As the 2019 school year drew to a close, the staff and learners of Union High School had to say their goodbyes to a much-loved teacher and co-worker – Ms Vona van Rensburg.
It is really special when old (and not so old) Unionites return to teach in classrooms where they spent so many years themselves as a learner. That is exactly what Ms van Rensburg did!
Having started her schooling at Union as a pre-schooler, then moving on to the prep school and later matriculating from the high school in 2011, Ms van Rensburg is an Old Unionite through and through.
After matriculating, Ms van Rensburg attended NMU where she completed her BA Honours degree. She then secured her first position as a teacher at the PW Botha College in George in 2016. In 2017 she accepted a post at Curro Mossel Bay.
In spite of her short sojourn as an educator at Union High School (2018-2019) she has certainly been a busy bee, involving herself in the life of the school as a hockey and tennis coach and as the teacher in charge of the 2019 Matric Farewell. Of course, mention must be made of her outstanding Afrikaans FAL results, which speak of an enthusiastic, passionate educator.
On Saturday, 7 December, Ms Van Rensburg will officially become Mrs van der Merwe when she marries her fiancé, Jaco, after which she will be joining her new husband in George.
Union extends its sincere thanks to Ms van Renburg for her dedication to education, the time spent contributing to the success of the Union Schools’ and especially for all the lives that she has impacted over the past two years!
