National Surfing Title – Camps Bay High School

National Surfing Title. Camps Bay High School’s Grade 8 student, Ben Esterhuyse, has once again proven his dominance in South African junior surfing. Ben also secured the U14 Boys Champion title at the 28th edition of the Sea Harvest SA Junior Surfing Championships. This is his fourth consecutive national title and his second U14 Boys win in a row. The event, presented by SMTH Shapes and supported by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and Ocean Freedom, took place at Lower Point in Jeffreys Bay from Wednesday, 25 September and finished with finals day on Sunday, 29 September under excellent surf conditions.

In a highly competitive final, Ben faced fierce opposition but delivered an outstanding performance under pressure to claim victory once again.

“I’m a bit blown away,” said a thrilled Esterhuyse. “I wasn’t in a flow state in the earlier heats, but I reset and found my rhythm in the final.”

Camps Bay High School’s Head of Sport, Busi Ngcwama, praised Ben’s remarkable achievement, stating, “Camps Bay High School has a strong surf legacy, and Ben continues that legacy of champions. We are incredibly proud of his commitment, determination, and consistent excellence in the sport.”

The Sea Harvest SA Junior Surfing Championships is a prestigious event that brings together 180 of the best junior surfers from eight districts across the country. Over the course of the competition, surfers also battled challenging conditions on the first day, with small and light onshore waves. However, day two delivered clean, three-foot waves with perfect offshore conditions, allowing the surfers to showcase their full potential.
