T20 Cricket Night League. At the Eston T20 Cricket Night League Final St Charles College played against Maritzburg College.
St Charles College lost the toss and was asked to bat first. The opening pair, Rico Honiball and Cian Fortmann got the Saints to a solid start, with a partnership of 62 runs before Fortmann was caught for 21. Wellmann joined Honiball and the pair also kept the scoreboard ticking at 7.5 runs per over. St Charles College reached the 100-mark after 13 overs. Wellmann shifted gears, taking the College bowlers apart and blasted 56 from 36 balls before he was dismissed. Brendon Sunguro finished off the Saints innings in style and smashed an unbeaten 30. Saints totalled a healthy 170 for 3 from their 20 overs.
Saints paceman Rowen Rajah began his bowling spell in style when he bounced out College’s opening batter without troubling the scorers. Maritzburg College had a good 3rd wicket partnership of 82 runs in 10 overs, which also got them back into the contest. A brilliant run out by Covhan Baatjies was also a costly blow to Maritzburg College’s chances. From there, their innings crumbled, Sunguro claiming 4 for 16 in his four overs. Fortmann supported him superbly, by picking up 2 for 28 in four overs. St Charles College restricted Maritzburg College to 139 for 9 in their 20 overs.
St Charles College won by 32 runs and successfully won the Eston One Insurance T20 Night League trophy for the third consecutive year. – Mr Lucky Dladla (Head Coach)
