Eskom Science Expo. Curro Durbanville High School has excelled at this year’s Regional Eskom Science Expo. The expo was held on August 2, at Paul Roos Gymnasium. Curro’s learners won 1 Highly Commended, 7 Bronze, 6 Silver, and 9 Gold medals!
Highlights include:
- Best Innovation Award (Best Overall Senior Project): Milla Vorster’s “The Organic Palette: 3D Printing Vascularized Organs” won Best Project in Biomedical Sciences and the Eskom Prize for Innovation.
- First Place in Environmental Science: Gayathri Haneesh with “Efficacious Enzymes: The Ultimate Tool for Food Waste Degradation.”
- Outstanding Engineering Achievement: Jorja de Beer and Rachael Jeffery’s remote-control pet feeder, also winning the Eskom Best Female Project award.
- Mathematics: Kieran Muller and Hein Nieuwoudt’s projects on Rubik’s Cube solving methods and the future of mathematics education.
- Social Science: Nikolas Ackermann and Shaun Stander’s study on personality traits and gaming preferences.
- Computer Science: Troy Stoffberg and Luke Honeyball’s Remote Soil Analysis using AI.
