Nelson Mandela Day – Camps Bay High School

Nelson Mandela Day. Camps Bay High School Celebrated Nelson Mandela Day with “Bread Buddies” Event.

In a heartwarming celebration of Nelson Mandela Day, Camps Bay High School organised a “Bread Buddies” event. It demonstrated their commitment to service and community support. Students from Grades 8 to 12 came together, with each of the 30 classes making sandwiches as a gesture of kindness.

Ms. Kirsten Mobsby, Head of Service at Camps Bay High School, expressed her amazement at the students’ efforts: “We were absolutely thrilled by the generosity of our students. They managed to produce over 2500 sandwiches, which is truly remarkable.”

These sandwiches were distributed to Salt River High School. Camps Bay High School has also been supporting them in various ways. Recently, Mr. Ross Mileham, a Business Studies teacher at Camps Bay High School, conducted a tutoring workshop for Salt River learners. Additionally, Camps Bay High School collected a large number of books to help Salt River High School establish a library and also supported them with a Bread Buddies event last term.

Ms. Mobsby added, “At Camps Bay High School, we believe every day should be Mandela Day. Service is one of our four pillars, alongside Academics, Culture, and Sport. Encouraging our learners to build empathy and support those in our community. It is also a crucial part of helping them become well-rounded citizens. The “Bread Buddies” event is also a testament to the spirit of Nelson Mandela Day and the ongoing commitment of Camps Bay High School to fostering a culture of service and community involvement among its students.”
