Kingswood Tennis – Kingswood College teams excel

Kingswood Tennis. Kingswood College, Grahamstown, had a busy week on the tennis courts

Yesterday, Friday 20 October, the Kingswood College1st Girls played a doubles fixture against Collegiate. It was a very competitive and close-fought encounter that showcased some truly spectacular tennis and fighting spirit from both sides. The Kingswood girls were exceptional. They won all their matches for a wonderful 4 – 0 result, although it was a lot closer than the overall result.

The 1st Girls team:
  • 1. Jenna Gadd & Isabelle Oertel
  • 2. Chloe Erasmus & Martine Collett
  • 3. Isabella Greyling & Mercedes Adriaan
  • 4. Kara Mackay & Lisa Duckett

Earlier this week the 1st Boys and U15A boys played in a doubles fixture against Grey College. The 1st Boys had a lot of interruption due to the absence of many matric players writing exams. Some of Kingswood’s U15A players also had to step up into the squad. Similarly, the U15A team had to be boosted by some of the U15B players.

Under the circumstances the 1st Boys also performed extremely well. While the top 2 couples of Grey proved to be too difficult for Kingswood’s boys, the 3rd and 4th couples won their matches. They end with a 2 – 2 draw in the first round. They then repeated this feat in the 2nd round to end the day with a draw (4 matches to 4). Grey did manage to win 6 more games than Kingswood did. Apart from this, with the overall result, the boys can be proud and they can build on next year.

The U15A boys were also missing a few players due to the Grade 9 camp as well as those who had to shift up to the 1st Team. Both rounds were tough and close, but Grey managed to win 3 matches to 1 in the first, as well as the second, round. While the boys found it challenging, the experience is invaluable. It will also stand them in good stead next year.

The Boys teams:

1st Boys couples:

  • Franco Klopper & James Hobson
  • Luke Miles & Baelien Hubert
  • Luke De Villiers & Paul Bassett
  • Victor Botha and Matt De Villiers

U15A Boys couples:

  • James Miles & Iminathi Ngcese
  • Oscar Hubert & Lewa Lekoko
  • Ahsante Mokanyole & Justin Connon
  • Ross Barnard & Thomas Shaw
