Camps Bay High School – Alumni Reunite for 30-Year Reunion

Camps Bay High School. The Class of 1993 returned to Camps Bay High School on Saturday, 22 July, to commemorate their 30-year school reunion. From different corners of the globe, including the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, and France, the alumni traveled great distances to reunite with their old school friends and relive cherished memories.

Louis Mostert, Principal of Camps Bay High School, expressed his delight at seeing so many past pupils reunited. “We were thrilled to welcome back the Class of 1993 to celebrate their 30-year reunion. Seeing our alumni come together, connecting with former classmates and teachers, truly embodies the spirit of our school community.”

Gina Ziervogel

Amongst the guests were the 1993 Head Prefect, Gina Ziervogel and one of her deputies, Andrew MacPherson as well as Cara Kahn nee Bjergfelt. Cara is a member of the Class of 1993. She currently serves as the Head of Camps Bay High School’s Alumni Association. Her presence added an extra layer of significance to the reunion. She reflected on her own journey from a Camps Bay High School Matriculant to leading the Alumni Association. She is also managing the Uniform Shop at Camps Bay High School. Here she gets to interact with the current learners and their parents on a daily basis.

Remarked Kahn, “It was an honour to be a part of this memorable reunion. The bond shared among our alumni is something truly special.”

Favourite teachers

Excitement filled the air as some of the class’ favourite teachers joined in the festivities. Including William Cawood and Colin Shapiro. Colin is the school’s current Head of Maths and still actively teaching at CBHS. Other teachers are Louis Mostert (current CBHS Principal), Arthur Moore, Eban Tucker, Dave Campbell, and also Linda van Niekerk. The reunion brought together former students and educators, rekindling bonds that stood the test of time.

Commented Mostert, “It was heart warming to witness the enduring love of a couple who also met in high school. Cara and Kyle Kahn are still happily together.

Nostalgic tour

The Class of 1993 alumni were also taken on a nostalgic tour of the school by student members of the Camps Bay High School PR Team, reminiscing about the cherished moments spent within the school’s halls. The celebrations continued at the Camps Bay Social Club, where laughter and shared memories filled the atmosphere.

Upcoming reunions

Looking ahead, Camps Bay High School is excited to host upcoming reunions for the Class of 1983 on 11 November. Also the Class of 2003 on 25 November, and the Class of 2013 on 2 December. Additionally, the Classes of 1988/1989 have chosen not to wait for their 40-year reunion and will hold a joint 34 and 35-year reunion in September.

In addition to the Reunion events, Camps Bay High School Alumni Association is also hosting a special event for all former pupils, parents and teachers.

Said Kahn, “The Timeless Tea is set to take place on Friday, 25 August, and presents a golden opportunity to reconnect with old friends from Camps Bay High School while delighting in an exquisite afternoon tea experience, carefully crafted by the talented students of our Catering Society.  Past pupils and parents are invited to join us in sharing their precious memories and oral histories with our current Grade 9 students, fostering a sense of connection across generations and inspiring the leaders of tomorrow.”

Former students

Concluded Mostert, “The Camps Bay High School Alumni Association aims to foster a strong sense of community among former students and support the school’s ongoing initiatives. By connecting alumni with current students and faculty, the association tries to make a positive impact on the educational journey of future generations.”
