schoolsthatrockAt first, writing a song seemed to be a huge mountain to climb for grade 7 Curro Mount Richmore learner, Siphesihle (Sihle) Mabizela, but she took on the challenge and wrote her very own first song.
“Sihle, who joined Curro Mount Richmore this year, is a great asset! Not only is she a singer, but a dancer and performer at her church too,” says Bryn Thomas, Executive Head at Curro Mount Richmore.
She recently wrote an upbeat gospel single called Bonga, teaming up with gospel singer Mqapheli and Kwaito artist Emza, to record the song.
The five minutes gospel anthem was produced by renowned producer/ DJ, Costah Dolla, and talks about gratitude and thanking God.
For Sihle, her goal is to write and perform more songs in the future. “I never thought that I would ever write a song, but I guess it was God’s plan and that is why the song is all about thanking God,” Sihle said.
Sihle’s mother Zamangwane Thabethe, who is an evangelist and author, believes her daughter can inspire the youth with her talent and attitude. “She is very talented; her voice is beautiful and clear, and it relates to the youth of today. I trust she’ll reach many through this song and change many people’s mind-set and ideas,” she said.
Thabethe says Sihle already has a dance move planned for the song’s music video, which is yet to be filmed.
Bonga was played to a few Curro Mount Richmore learners and was very well received. “They were in shock and at the same time very impressed when they heard it for the first time. They all said ‘Congratulations Sihle, we love you,’ says Sihle.”
Although she is a performer, her dream is to become a movie director and work behind the scenes. Her YouTube channel called the Teen Struggle aims at helping children suffering from depression.
