Union High School – A girl and her bird

If ever there was a little girl destined to become a veterinarian, Aimee Short would be it.

Whether she’s hand-rearing little lambs on their family farm, Wheatlands, or raising orphaned birds, a love for animals and a passion for rescuing them just seems to flow through her veins.

On Monday morning, 20 January, Aimee, a Grade 5 learner at Union High School, was spotted with her newest patient – a baby swallow – at the school’s annual Interhouse athletics day.

Aimee found the little orphaned baby swallow in need of rescuing a little more than four weeks ago and has been hand-rearing it ever since.

Aimee’s round-the-clock care ensured that the little bird she found, which sported only a few tufts of down at the time, has become a healthy little fledgling.
