schoolsthatrockPietermaritzburg Girls’ High School matric pupil, Okuhle Mkhize, was one of four South African learners who travelled to Tehran, Iran to participate in the International Biology Olympiad. There were teams from 70 different countries, with over 200 high learners competing. Each team had to write the National Biology Olympiad in their respective countries in order to qualify for this Olympiad.
There were four sets of practical sessions of 90 minutes each, and two theory sessions of three hours each. The standard of the questions was equivalent to fourth-year biology and medical students in South Africa.
Although the South African tem did not receive a medal, their participation in this event is commendable.
