Life on a quieter weekend. West House Weekend Spirit.
While Michaelhouse weekends are often packed with fixtures, West House reminds us what life looks like when the schedule slows down.
The morning also resembled the aftermath of a long campaign. Boys drifting in slow motion, hair in every direction, eyes half‑open, and yawns enough to power Eskom for a few minutes. Many were convinced that twelve more hours of sleep was also a basic human right.
Brunch revived the troops, and by afternoon, Bailey’s had transformed into the stage for what could only be described as the Rugby World Cup final — West House edition. Around thirty‑six boys from E to A Block threw themselves into an epic touch game that lasted for hours. There were dramatic dives, suspicious tries, injury‑time water breaks, and banter echoing across the valley. A few sidelined boys even became full‑time commentators, offering “expert analysis” from the stands.
Housemaster Mr Ian Crawford summed it up perfectly. It was wonderful to watch boys of all grades simply enjoying being together — free bounds at its very best. No laptops. No cellphones. And no WiFi complaints. Just laughter, fresh air, chaos, and one very long game of touch rugby. Proof that boys survive perfectly well without devices… though a few may have needed ice baths afterward!
From slow Sundays to packed schedules, Michaelhouse life is never short of energy.
