SA Paddling Trials. Camps Bay High School – Sporting Excellence.
Camps Bay High School’s Grade 12 learner, Ryley Smith, has been making waves in the paddling world with a series of outstanding performances.
At the SA Trials (Fish Hoek to Buffels Bay, 22km), Ryley powered his way to 10th overall and 2nd in the U18 category, securing his place on the South African team heading to Spain later this year.
On Freedom Day, he rose to another challenge — the Freedom Paddle around Robben Island (30km) in wild ocean conditions. Partnering with Keagan Voigt from Wynberg Boys, the duo impressed with a superb 5th place overall against elite senior crews, while also finishing as the first U18 boat home.
Adding to his list of accolades, Ryley has been named Captain of the Junior Western Cape Lifesaving Team for the upcoming Interprovincials in Durban.
From endurance to leadership, Ryley’s achievements reflect not only his talent but also his determination and character. A phenomenal run — well done, Ryley!
