SA Sprint Canoeing Championships. Outstanding Medal Performances! Roodeplaat Dam, Pretoria | 27–29 March.
Maritzburg College athletes delivered an exceptional showing at the South African Sprint Canoeing Championships, securing multiple podium finishes across age groups and events. Their performances highlighted both dominance at the highest level and the promise of rising stars in the sport.
U/18 & U/23 Highlights
Keegan Vogt (U/18) was in commanding form, claiming gold across multiple disciplines:
- K1 1000m – 1st
- K1 500m – 1st
- U/23 K1 5000m – 1st
- K2 1000m (with Matt Wilson) – 1st
- K2 500m (with Matt Wilson) – 1st
Keegan’s outstanding results earned him selection for the Junior World Championships. However, he has chosen to focus on his marathon commitments in July, underscoring his dedication to long-term goals.
Josh Worthmann also impressed in the doubles events with Daniel van Eeden:
- K2 200m – 1st
- K2 1000m – 2nd
- K2 500m – 2nd
U/16 Rising Star
Kaden Hogarty (U/16) showcased his versatility and determination, medaling across multiple distances:
- K1 1000m – 2nd
- K1 500m – 2nd
- K1 200m – 2nd
- K1 5000m – 3rd
- K2 500m – 2nd
- K2 200m – 2nd
Kaden’s consistency and talent have earned him selection for the Olympic Hopes Team – a remarkable achievement and a testament to his hard work and potential.
