Basketball Report – Kearsney College’s excellent performance

Basketball Report. Kearsney College 1st Team vs Westville Boys’ High 1st Team KZN Midweek Fixture.

Kearsney College hosted Highway rivals Westville Boys’ High in a highly anticipated midweek clash.

The home side struggled to find rhythm early on, appearing flat and out of sorts. Although Kearsney created good scoring opportunities, they failed to convert consistently. Westville capitalized, scoring freely and building a commanding lead. The first quarter closed with Westville ahead 21–12.

In the second quarter, Kearsney tightened up defensively, forcing rushed shots and disrupting Westville’s offensive flow. With greater fluency on attack, Kearsney cut into the deficit and reduced time spent under pressure. By halftime, the gap had narrowed to just two points, with Westville holding a slim 34–32 advantage.

Momentum shifted further in the third quarter. Kearsney pressed hard, while Westville responded with tough baskets to cling to their lead. The hosts continued to chip away, and by the end of the quarter the score stood at 46–45 in Westville’s favour, setting up a tense final period.

Westville struck first in the fourth quarter but struggled to maintain offensive cohesion, committing turnovers and missing key shots. Kearsney, though still wasteful at times, looked fresher and forced crucial turnovers through disciplined defense. Seizing control, Kearsney took the lead and never relinquished it, closing out a hard-fought 62–57 victory.

As expected when these two rivals meet, the contest was uncompromising and fiercely competitive, providing spectators with a memorable encounter.
