Record Grade 8 Intake. Yesterday, Michaelhouse, KZN, opened its gates to the . A total of 129 boys from five provinces across South Africa joined the ranks of the prestigious institution.
This diverse group comes from 58 feeder schools worldwide, with Clifton Prep (Nottingham Road), Cordwalles, and Highbury leading the way. Together, these three schools contributed 31 boys to the Class of 2030.
Naming trends also shifted this year. While James and Joshua were the most popular names in 2025, each appearing four times, they have now been overtaken by Jack and Michael, with four boys each bearing those names in the new intake.
The Midlands provided a fitting backdrop, basking in spectacular sunshine as staff and prefects welcomed the newcomers to what will be their home for the next five years.
Senior Prefect for 2026, Max Oliva, shared words of encouragement, summing up his own Michaelhouse journey in a single word: Brotherhood. He urged his “130 little brothers” to embrace the time, support, and opportunities awaiting them in Balgowan, and to strive to become the very best versions of themselves.
