Ozzie Gladwin Canoe Race. 🚣 Michaelhouse Canoe Club Report.
The Michaelhouse Canoe Club proudly took part in the Ozzie Gladwin Canoe Race this past weekend. Traditionally raced across Albert Falls Dam and down the uMngeni River, the Ozzie Gladwin is the first in a series of qualifying races for the prestigious Dusi Canoe Marathon. The Dusi is scheduled for February 2026.
This year, seven Michaelhouse paddlers lined up at the start. Each was determined to test their skills and secure their place in the build-up to the Dusi.
🌟 Highlights & Achievements
- Sam Hoy delivered an outstanding performance, securing third and fourth-place finishes in the U18 age group.
- Ethan Perry, partnered by Leo Watson, finished fourth in the U16 age group.
- Robert Short, partnered by Ivan Nel, put in a strong showing, finishing fourth in the U18 age group..
Looking Ahead
The Ozzie Gladwin is more than just a race — it’s also a proving ground for the Dusi Canoe Marathon, one of South Africa’s most iconic endurance events. With their strong performances, the Michaelhouse canoeists have set the stage for an exciting season and will continue their preparations with confidence and determination.
