. 🌊 Camps Bay High School Surfer selected for the SA Junior Surfing Team.
Camps Bay High School is thrilled to announce that Grade 9 learner and rising surf star Ben Esterhuyse has been selected to represent South Africa. Ben is part of the 2025 SA Junior Surfing Team. He will compete in the U16 Boys division at the prestigious ISA World Junior Surfing Championships later this year. There, the world’s best young surfers will battle it out for international glory 🏄♂️.
Ben’s selection comes as no surprise to those who’ve followed his journey. With Glen Beach as his daily training ground—just steps from the school—Ben has also honed his skills in the powerful Atlantic swells. This has shaped many of South Africa’s top surfers. Ben’s dedication, discipline, and natural talent have earned him multiple national titles. This also includes four consecutive wins at the Sea Harvest SA Junior Surfing Championships. There, he dominated the U14 Division 2.
Surfing frees my mind
“Surfing frees my mind,” Ben shared in a recent interview. “It’s something I’ve loved since I was six years old. I started competing at ten, and once I began winning, I realized I could really pursue this seriously”.
Ben’s achievement continues CBHS’s proud legacy of producing elite-level surfers who go on to represent their provinces and country. The school’s Head of Sport, Busi Ngcwama, praised Ben’s commitment: “Camps Bay High School has a strong surf culture. Ben exemplifies the spirit of excellence we strive for. We’re incredibly proud of his journey and excited to see him shine on the world stage”.
The ISA World Junior Championships are considered the pinnacle of youth surfing, drawing competitors from over 40 nations. For Ben, this is not just a chance to compete—it’s an opportunity to showcase South African surfing talent to the world.
