Independent Schools Rugby Festival. The Future U14 rugby Champs of St Charles College, Pietermaritzburg, enjoyed a highly successful trip to Johannesburg. They clinched victory in all three of their matches at the Independent Schools Rugby Festival. While the team closed out their 2025 season with seven consecutive wins, the spotlight shifted to the seniors. The U18 edition of the Independent School Rugby Festival kicked off at St Charles College.
Running from 28 June, this vibrant, week-long festival brought together 15 schools. The schools are from across South Africa, alongside a touring side from Brisbane, Australia. The atmosphere was electric, and conditions could not have been better for running rugby. Warm, sunny weather and a hard, fast surface set the stage for exciting, expansive play.
Fill a vacancy
St Charles College had the unique honour of fielding two squads this year. They stepped in to fill a vacancy created by a late team withdrawal. This allowed for broader player exposure. It gave invaluable game time to the boys. The teams are from the U16A and U16B sides, the 2nd XV, and even their 3rd team. It was a fantastic opportunity for these young athletes to showcase their talent. They could also test themselves against top competition and make a strong case for future selection.
“It was a tremendous occasion for the boys to demonstrate their skills and stake a claim for higher honours.” — Mr Rowan Irons, Director of Sport
The 2025 U18 ISRF proved once again that schoolboy rugby is alive with passion, camaraderie, and untapped potential. As the dust settles on an unforgettable week. The young players return inspired, battle-tested, and ready to chase even greater heights in 2026.
