Dads and Lads. Being a dad is about more than providing or protecting – it’s about patience, presence and purpose. Whether it’s wrestling in the living room, building a treehouse, or sharing a quiet moment over bedtime stories, these interactions build lifelong memories and strengthen the bond between father and son. Fathers physically challenge their sons in ways that encourage resilience, confidence and accomplishment. They also model how to navigate emotions, how to treat others with respect, and how to approach life with integrity and courage.
One way this bond is celebrated is through our dads ‘n lads’ events – special occasions where fathers and sons come together for some fun and connection. The shared experience of play, teamwork, and laughter creates memories that both dad and son carry for years to come. These moments aren’t just fun – they’re formative. They help boys feel seen and supported. They give dads a chance to connect more deeply with their sons outside of everyday routines, reinforcing a message that says, “I’m here for you, and I enjoy being with you.”
As boys grow into young men, the early influence of an engaged father can shape their self-esteem, academic success, emotional intelligence, and ability to form strong relationships. So, whether it’s through daily interactions or special events like Dad’s and Lads, the time invested by fathers is one of the most powerful gifts a boy can receive. – Mrs Lauren Riley (Head of Junior Primary).
