Chess Cambridge Derby – On 6 May, the St Andrew’s College, Grahamstown chess team travelled to East London.
St Andrew’s College played an one-hour-per-player chess derby against Cambridge High. The encounter was closely fought, with St Andrew’s narrowly edged out 3–4.
Felix Jackson was the first to claim a victory for the team, setting an encouraging tone. Thomas Faber followed with a commanding performance, showcasing his precision and control. The highlight of the match came from Alex Booth on Board 4, who staged an extraordinary comeback from a difficult position to secure a brilliant and inspirational win.
Although the team fell short by just one game, their determination, discipline, and sportsmanship were outstanding. St Andrew’s is proud of their efforts and excited to see them carry this momentum into their next fixture.
