KZN School Hockey. In a tightly contested KZN School Hockey fixture between two long-standing rivals, Kearsney College’s 1st XI faced off against Westville Boys’ High. This was a match that showcased skill, determination and excellent sportsmanship.
The first half saw both teams creating opportunities, but it was Westville who struck first, converting a well-placed short corner to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Kearsney responded superbly in the second half, taking control of possession and dictating the pace of the game. The relentless pressure paid off with a well-worked equaliser which resulted in a goal from a stroke.
A short corner in the final 15 seconds of the match presented Kearsney with an opportunity to take the win. They narrowly missed out on a dramatic late winner. The miss was thanks to a great save from Westville’s keeper.
With countless opportunities created and strong composure shown under pressure; the game was held in the balance for most of the game. The match was played in excellent spirit, testament to the enduring respect between the two schools.Â
