Executive Portfolio Leader. Like we did the past years, schoolsthatrock again chat to the Head Leaders of High Schools in South Africa this year. Today we talk to Lolwethu (Lolly) Sauka, Executive Portfolio Leader of Curro Westbrook, Gqeberha.
“As Executive Portfolio Leader, I’m really looking forward to making a difference and leaving a mark that people will remember. It’s my last year of High School, so I want to make it count but not just for myself but also for the students who come after me.
My personal goal for my leadership year is that I want to help build the school’s name into something people recognize and respect. Curro Westbrook has so much potential, and I want us to be known for more than just academics but also for our school spirit, leadership, and unity.
Qualities of Curro Westbrook
The qualities of our school that stand out most, is the unity. No matter what, there’s always a sense of togetherness at Curro Westbrook. Whether it’s in academics, sports, or even just normal school life, people support each other and that’s something really special.
Adjustments or changes at our school? As the school keeps growing, I’d love to see more spaces and opportunities for students. Whether that’s more extracurriculars, better facilities, or even just ways for different grades to interact more. Growth is great, but it needs to come with more chances for students to shine.
Curro Westbrook isn’t just a school but it’s a family. The support system, the friendships, and the way we push each other to do better and make it a place where you don’t just learn but actually grow. If you want a school that challenges you but also makes you feel at home, Curro Westbrook is the school for you.
Strongest leadership trait
My strongest leadership trait is determination. Once I set my mind to something, I’ll see it through. Whether it’s schoolwork, leadership, or personal goals, I don’t give up easily.
Communication is a huge part of our leadership values, so keeping communication with my team open and honest is key. When everyone feels heard and valued, they naturally give their best. That is the way to get collaboration.
The person I look up to most? I’d say someone like my future self and the person I see myself growing to become. The version of me that has accomplished everything I’m working towards. That’s the person I strive to be every day.
I am daydreaming to achieving my dreams. Going to university, making a name for myself in the world, and maybe even doing a student exchange abroad during my university days.
My favourite dish is anything spicey – spicey like me.
My future career? I want to study Computer Science, and my top choices are UCT, Stellenbosch, or Wits. If I get the chance, I’d love to do one of my university years abroad on a student exchange program and getting a global experience while pursuing my passion. That would be amazing!”
