National Swimming competitions – Rondebosch Boys’ High superior

National Swimming competitions.

Rondebosch Boys’ High School is incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its swimmers. They recently shone across several prestigious national competitions.

Their season of success began with a special mention for Carter Moolman, Michael Trower, and Seth Jacobs. They earned selection for the SA Schools team that competed at UWC — a testament to their consistency, talent, and dedication. From there, the athletes traveled to Gqeberha. There, they faced South Africa’s finest swimmers, representing Rondebosch with remarkable grit and skill at the highest levels of the sport.

SA National Youth Championships

The action continued at the SA National Youth Championships (ages 17–25), held from 18–20 March. Rondebosch was proudly represented by Alexander Benecke, Andrew Gilbert, Carter Moolman, and Nicholas Trower. Their performances were exceptional:

  • Andrew Gilbert claimed first place in the 50m Breaststroke and second in the 100m Breaststroke.
  • Nicholas Trower secured a superb third place in the 200m Freestyle.

Shortly after, the younger elite athletes took to the water at the South African National Junior Age Group Championships (SANJ). It is the premier competition for ages 11–19, where qualifying alone is a major achievement. Delmar Benecke, Jason Bouwer, Noah Roman, Ben Sirin, Marcus Spencer, and Logan Williams all competed valiantly against the country’s top age-group swimmers.

To round out a marathon of racing, Andrew Gilbert, Nicholas Trower, and Noah Wollenschlaeger stepped up at the South African Senior Championships. This “Open” category pits swimmers against the very best in the nation, regardless of age. The boys held their own in a world-class field:

  • Nicholas Trower reached the A Final of the 200m Individual Medley, finishing 7th in South Africa, and also claimed third place in the 100m Backstroke B Final.
  • Andrew Gilbert showed his strength with a third-place finish in the 50m Breaststroke B Final, placing him 11th overall in South Africa.

Rondebosch extends heartfelt congratulations to all its swimmers for their hard work, resilience, and dedication. Their achievements bring immense pride to Rondebosch Boys’ High School and inspire the next generation of athletes.
