UK Cricket Tour. The St Andrew’s College 1st XI found themselves at the exquisite Wellington College campus yesterday for their 6th match of their UK Cricket Tour of England.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, the College batsmen struggled to get going on what was a more difficult wicket. Batsmen got in, but when trying to accelerate, got out. Mitchell Coventry played well for his 69 and Laurie Apps batted well with the tail to ensure that College batted out their 50 overs, ending on 233/9.
Roman van Zyl continues to impress with the new ball and got an early breakthrough. He picked up another couple of wickets towards the end of his first spell.
Wellington tried to rebuild but a couple of run outs put them under pressure again. A mature 9th wicket partnership and some average game management by the St Andrew’s College team meant that Wellington still only needed close to a run a ball for the last 8 overs. Sam Scheckter managed to break the partnership and a fourth run out saw Wellington being bowled out for 205, a 28-run win for College.
